This session will explore the history of colorism, define it, compare the history to how it manifests in present day, and talk about how it impacts students of all races and ethnicities. As reported by Time Magazine in 2016, Colorism will soon replace Racism as a result of immigration and the mix of ethnicities by marriage. Participants will leave with a better understanding of what students of any ethnicity face both at home and at school, and gain strategies on how to make students feel supported and comfortable. The impacts of this presentation will assist in student mental health, and a feeling of comfort in classrooms as well as impacting teachers with the knowledge of a rising topic in Diversity and Equity in today's world.
